Mexico, no. 213). Bapt. 16 Nov 1848, age four months, legitimate
child of D. Rafael Alfrido and Da. Trinidad Trevino, names
godparents Da. Matiana Benavides and D. Francisco de Pena Benavides.

Noviembre de mil ochocientos cuarenta y ocho. Yo el prestibero
Francisco de Pena Benavides cura engarado (encargado?) de ella.
Bautise solemnemente y puse los santos oleos y crisma a Jose Daniel
de cuarto meses de nacido. Hijo legitimo de Don Rafael Alfrido y de
Doņa Trinidad Trevino.  Fueron padrinos Doņa Matiana Benavides y
firmo.

Daniel is first enumerated on the 1850 U.S. Census in his father's
household in Cameron County Texas as Daniel Racliffe, age 3, male,
born in Texas.

Federal Population Schedule TX, Alpheus Racliffe household, 1850,
(Bowieville, Cameron Co., Rio Grande Valley, p. 707, hh 1544-1714, lns
24-33).

In 1900, Daniel is a ranchman, living in Zapata, Texas, with wife and
two sons, enumerated as Daniel Alfrido.

The next hh is his son, Rafael Alfrido, age 25, with wife, Gregoria,
age 23, and two children, Sara Alfrido and Esequiel Alfrido.  Also
in Rafael's household are four young girls, his sisters-in-law.
Rafaela Martinez, age 17, Leonarda Martinez, age 15, Rosendora
Martinez, age 14, and Margarita Martinez, age 8.  The girls are
identified as Mexican nationals (aliens).  According to the census,
all but Sara and Ezequiel were born in Mexico, and only Rafael
can speak English. They immigrated in 1894. Sara and Ezequiel
born in Texas.
