East Fork Cemetery

LOCATION: This cemetery is north off Hwy 24/48 at church sign. 6.4 miles west of Pike County line. At .9 mile from highway, turn NE toward Thompson for .1 mile. This cemetery was not difficult to find, though it seemed to me that we traveled further than the distances above indicate. (I copied the distances from the Amite County Cemeteries book by Mogan and Mogan.) The cemetery was in good repair.

We visited this cemetery in July 1999 to photograph and transcribe markers of interest in our research. THERE ARE MORE GRAVES in this cemetery. If you don't find a known grave here, try rootsweb. Often you can find a complete transcription of a cemetery in the rootsweb archives.

The lighting is not as good as it might be on some photographs, as we visited cemeteries either in the early morning, as the sun was coming up, or in the late evening, as the sun began setting, spending the the best part of the day at the courthouse in Liberty.

Some of the oldest were difficult or impossible to read. Where possible, we (mother and I) transcribed each of the markers. I will add captions as time permits.
