This exhibit shows ten selected pages from Samuel Tarver's Revolutionary Pension File.
Samuel Tarver was the son of John Tarver & Sarah Rogers. He married Charlotte Goff on December 27, 1787 in Wake County, North Carolina. They had six children: five daugthers and one son. Both
are buried in Roberts Cem., Knox Co., Tennessee.
Samuel's parents ran a ferry on the Neuse River in Wake County, North Carolina. His mother also ran a tavern there after her husband's death. Both families, the TARVERs and the ROGERs settled at
the crossroads there.
After his mother's death, guardians for Samuel, born 1757, were James and Faith ROGERS WOOTEN, with whom he was entrusted until 1775; then with his uncle, Michael ROGERS, brother of his mother
Sarah. Faith was his mother's sister.

23 Feb 1768 Mary Tarver, orph. came to court and chose James WOOTEN for her guardian, WOOTEN also to be guardian to William and Samuel Tarver, bonds made.

Brother of Sarah, Michael ROGERS, granted guardianship. (See Johnston Co., North Carolina Court Minutes, 1759-1766, ... re: ROGERS, Tarver, LOWRY)

1787
Four years later, on the 27 of December 1787, he married Charlotte Goff in Wake Co., North Carolina, where they were still living in 1818. All six of their children were born here:
- Mary
- Frances
- Elizabeth
- Polly
- Ransom Ruffin Tarver, Sr.
- Nancy
Note from Aileen Irvin Tarver, AFOWL@aol.com
Charlotte Goff and "Old" Samuel had 5 daughters and a son named Ransom Ruffin Tarver (SR) (Six daughters - wondering if Polly and Lolly are twin . . . ,
not proven ??) Polly and William Nelms go to Henry Co., Georgia. Her parents, her brother Ransom Ruffin, and her sister Nancy Crawford were in Knox Co., Tennessee. Shortly after Ransom and Sarah were
married they loaded everyone up (not sure about Nancy and Arthur) and took off for Georgia to be near Polly and William Nelms. Sarah could have been pregnant when they left. I was shocked when I
started looking at birth places and found hubby Fred's great grandfather was born in Henry Co., GA. So in Henry Co., GA on May 9, 1829 Ransom and Sarah had daughter Martha Ann and then on Jan 20,
1831 they had Samuel Jackson Tarver (our line). Shortly after this they all but the Nelms went back to Knox Co., TN. Next daughter was born in Knox Co on Dec 26, 1833.
1827+
Samuel and Charlotte sold their farm and moved to Knox Co. Tennessee circa 1827. They went to Georgia in 1830, where they had children living, but returned to Knox County three years later, living
with their son.
1845
Samuel was pensioned on certificate 8846. He died at his son's farm on 08 February 1845, and was buried in the nearby cemetery. After he died, his widow, Charlotte Goff, was pensioned on certificate
106. Both pensions were paid at the East Tennessee agency. When Charlotte died (also on their son's farm), she too was buried in the nearby cemetery. (See: National Archives Rev. Record No. 11594.
