John Matthews and Tabitha Gilson
Family Records Book
In possession of Maradee Cryer
Included among some Matthews family keepsakes and genealogical materials that Maradee Cryer recieved from her mother, was the old Matthews family bible and a record book. John Matthews recorded family births, marriages and deaths in the family record book, much like other families used their bible. The book also records his children's school attendance. A copy of one page, recording family births, is exhibited here.
Maradee writes:
I am making scans of the old record book. It was begun in the 1860s and is missing most of its pages. The Matthews children (John, Samuel, and Loderick) used it to practice their writing, I think, as their names are scribbled all over everything.
