TARVER ~ Wills & Administrations
Wills dated prior to 1800
Only one will has been located prior to those included in the chart below, that of Thomas Tarver of Surry County, Virginia, /s/ 13 Dec 1711, /p/ 20 Aug 1714, Surry Co., VA, WB 6, p. 125. One son is named in Thomas Tarver's will, Samuel Tarver, who did not leave a will, and is said to have been killed by Nottaway Indians. A son-in-law Thomas Nicholas is proven in court records and census records of Surry County, Virginia, but his wife's name, the daughter of Thomas Tarver, is not known. Records hve not been located indicating the identity of the mother of Thomas Tarver's children. Thomas' second wife, the stepmother of his children, is known to have been named Elizabeth, proven by his will. Her maiden name is not known. Many believe her to have been a Warren by birth. To my knowledge, this has not been substantiated.
A land grant dated much earlier than the wills mentioned below, June 11, 1651, has been located, but no will, for William Tarver, of St. Mary's Parish, Maryland. While this land grant proves a very early arrival for TARVER immigrants, no known descendants have been located through research. The possibility exists that William Tarver of Maryland could be the ancestor of the Virginia and North Carolina Tarvers to whom many families trace their ancestry. The connection is not proven.

NOTES
Transcription of the above wills was one of the earliest tasks I set about doing when I first put the "genealogy by lotus dale" Web site online in 1997. As with all of the earliest work, revision and modification to adapt the work to the Tarver-Gen Web site has been required ~ and is ongoing as the Tarver-Gen Web site grows and changes.
The actual text of the transcriptions has been revisited, but has not required modification, only the presentation format has changed.
