LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF SAMUEL A TARVER
State of Georgia }
Richmond County } In the name of God Amen, I Samuel A. Tarver of said State & County, being past the meridian of life, sound in mind & memory but feeble in health, deem it right and proper, both as it respects my family & myself, that I should make a disposition of the property with which a kind Providence has blessed me, do therefore make this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all others heretofore made by me.
1st Item. I desire and direct that my body be buried in a decent and christian like manner suitable to my circumstances & condition in life, my soul, I trust shall return to rest with God who gave it.
2nd Item. I desire & direct, that all my just debts be paid with as little delay as possible.
3rd Item. I give & bequeath to my son, John Vallaton Tarver, my negro man Harry, at the death or marriage of my wife.
4th Item. I give & bequeath to my son, Eugene Lafayette Tarver, my negro man
Ellick, at the death or marriage of my wife.
5th Item. I give & bequeath to my son Laurence Augustin Tarver, my negro man George, at the death or marriage of my wife.
6th Item.
Inasmuch as my father at his death, gave to my daughter Frances Ann Webb, wife of George L. Webb of Savannah, so much more property than the rest of my children will have, I cannot give her more than Ten Dollars.
7th Item. I give & bequeath unto my sons, Etheldrid Ruffin Tarver, William Henry Tarver, Samuel Otis Tarver, Francis Robinson Tarver, and my daughter Laura Augusta Tarver, the following negro slaves, (viz) Page, Viney & her two children Affy & Scott, Peggy & his two children Peter & Jennett, Silvy & Patty, together with the land, Stock, Plantation tools, Household & Kitchen furniture, monies & notes, and all property not herein before specified, that may be in the possession of my wife at her death or marriage, or the survivors of them or of the heirs of their body, to share & share alike.
8th Item. It is my will and desire, and I do direct & bequeath, shall be taken charge of by my wife, all the aforesaid negro slaves, lands, stock, monies, notes, furniture, tools and all, and every species of property I die possessed of that my wife Frances Augusta Tarver take my place in the management of said property during her life or widowhood, without having to make any appraisement of the same, or to make any annual returns of her acts & doings to the Court of Ordinary as Executrix. But it is my will & desire that she manage the same during her life or widowhood as she deem just & proper for the welfare of herself & children, having power to sell or dispose of any or all of the property specified in the 7th Item of this my will to buy whatever may be necessary. And I hereby further empower her, if she may deem it expedient or proper at any time, to give to my granddaughter Sarah Green Tarver not exceeding Two Hundred Dollars.
9th Item I hereby constitute and appoint my beloved wife Frances Augusta Tarver Executrix of this my last will and testament with the power and privileges above named, during her life or widowhood. And in the event of her death or marriage, I hereby appoint in her stead, my sons Etheldrid Ruffin Tarver and Samuel Otis Tarver my Executors to this my last will and testament this Fifteenth day of June 1855.

and published by Samuel Tarver as his last will and testament in the presence of us the subscribers, who subscribe our names hereto in the presence of said testator, at his special instruction & request, and of each other.
