Josiah Jordan, Anderson Bates, James (x) Duke ------------------ State of Georgia Wilkes County LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF JOHN TARVER In the name of God amen I John Tarver of Wilkes County in the State of Georgia being at Present with low state of health of body but of sound mind and memory - my thanks be to the almighty God therefore and calling to mind the mortality of my body doth give and dispose of my goods, and shattles In manner and form that is to say after my just debts are all Paid It is my desire that the remaining Part of my Property which consist at this time of five negroes known by the name of Jack King Tom Daniel and Qually - also four head head [sic] horses known by the names one bay horse Stamper one bay horse Aldridge one bay horse Beggen one rone horse also my stock cattle hogs sheep still horsetrots and 19 etchings - furniture blacksmiths tools and Plantation utentials also one waggon shold be Equally divided between my beloved wife Elizabeth Tarver and my dear Children to wit Richard Tarver, Patience Gibson, Mason Tarver, Charlote Tarver ~ Benjamin Tarver and Andrew Tarver. In the most equatable manner that my executors may think - Proper and I do constitute and appoint my trusted friends David Bates and my friend James Jordan my whole and sole Executors of my last will and testament disannulling and making void all other wills by me heretofore made and In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 20th day of April 1808. The suit named the six children and also said his first wife was named Jorden [Jordan] . . . . - Elizabeth Tarver widow vs. Richard, Samuel, Benjamin and Andrew Tarver and William Gibson, William Gilliam and James Jourdan. In her petition, Elizabeth states she married 5 Sep 1795 to John Tarver, dec'd. On 26 Apr 1808, he wrote his will, naming his children: Richard Tarver, Patience Gibson, then and now wife of William Gibson; Mason Tarver, then wife of Robert Tarver, now intermarried with William Gilliam; Charlotte Tarver, then and now wife of Samuel Tarver; Benjamin and Andrew Tarver, all of Wilkes Co., Georgia, except Charlotte and Samuel, of Burke Co. John Tarver died 6 Sep 1810. He had appointed David Bates, now dec'd and James Jourdan, of Oglethorpe Co., as Executors. . . He had purchased land in 1806 or 1807, being William Gibson's part . . . he held with his bro. Geo. Gibson, bought of William Digby . . . that slave Hanna and children were given the first wife by a Mr. Jourdan. Richard Tarver, in his answer, states that while Elizabeth lived with his father as his wife, he (Richard) owned the land . . . that Hanna was loaned to his mother by the will of George Jourdan. . . that Jim was given to him, and Hanna's other children were younger than Jim. --- : 1804 (earlier) DB VV, p. 166, 25 July 1804, Edward Moore and Lucy, his wife, to Benjamin, John, and Andrew Tarver, all of Wilkes Co., for $1200, 300 acres on S side of Lottle River, part of 400 acres granted to John Lindsey by patent, 23 Feb 1785. /s/ Edw.
