Services for V.L. Tarver, Jr., 69, of Jena will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 17, 1991 at the Nolley Memorial United Church with Rev. Paul Carroll officiating.
Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Kinner & Stevens Funeral Home.
Tarver died Tuesday, January 15th in St. Frances Cabrini Hospital of Alexandria following an extended illness.
He was a Naval veteran of World War II and a retired employee of Louisiana Power & Light.
He was a member of the Nolley Memorial United Methodist Church were he had served on the church's administrative board and was active in the United Methodist Men's Club and the Baker Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Tarver; two sons,
Keith Tarver of Jena and
Dennis Tarver of Shreveport;
two daughters,
Dianne Tarver Smith of Alexandria and
Sherri Goolsby of Jackson, Miss.;
his mother, Marie Tarver of Jena;
one sister, Audrey Miles of Jena;
two brothers,
Donald Tarver of Jena and
David Tarver of Mandeville;
four grandchildren, Stephanie and Scott Tarver of Jena, Devon Goolsby of Jackson, Miss., Sarah DeBock of Shreveport; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Memorial may be made to Nolley United Methodist Church of to the American Heart Association.

Father: Virgil Lee Roy Tarver, Sr., b. July 10, 1901, d. August 14, 1976, married on June 16, 1919 to June 16, 1919 to Cora Elizabeth Garner, b. August 03, 1900 d. March 28, 1928. Virgil's wife, Cora, died while their children were young. She is bured at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Wheeling, Louisiana. After her death, Virgil Sr. married Marie Branch. Virgil Sr. and Marie are buried at Jena Memorial Cem., Jena, LaSalle Par., Louisiana.
Grandfather: Marion Crawford Tarver, b. April 26, 1875, d. January 07, 1948, married on September 21, 1895 at Holloway Prairie, Rapides Par., Louisiana to Adeline Jolly (Bible records of Marion Crawford Tarver). Adeline Jolly was b. April 04, 1875, d. January 05, 1923. Marion and Adeline are buried at Bethel Meth. Ch. Cem., Rapides Par., Louisiana. Marion Crawford Tarver also married Dorothy Huffman, August 25, 1930, Rapides Par., Louisiana (Book 94-226).
Great-grandfather: Russell Marion Tarver, b. April 09, 1853 (Amite Co., Ms), d. June 05, 1914 (LaSalle Par., La), married Aletha Ann Minerva Wilson, b. February 14, 1854, d. 1927. Both are buried at Belah Meth. Church, LaSalle Par., Louisiana, near Jena.
Russell Marion Tarver was the son of Samuel Wilson Tarver and Mary Ann Lilly, the great-grandson of Wilson and Melinda Tarver, and the great-great-grandson Judith Cockerham, daughter of John Cockerham, Sr of Liberty, Amite Co., Mississippi (Amite MS Probate no. 34).
