Final Rites For Mrs. M. Johnson At Verda April 25
Mrs. Minnie Johnson, 79, of Verda, died at 7:55 a.m. April 24 in a Winnfield
hospital following a brief illness. She was a native of the Atlanta-Verda
area and was a member of the Verda Baptist Church.
Final rites were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 25, in the Verda
Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Calhoun officiating. Burial was in the Verda
Cemetery under direction of Southern Funeral Home.
The following grandsons acted as pallbearers: James Lawrence Johnson, James
Reed Johnson, L.B. Dubois, Bryan Hines, Larry Dyson, and Dr. Raymond Collier.
Survivors include two sons, James B. Johnson of Verda and M.S. Johnson of
Atlanta; four daughters, Mrs. A.B. Collier of Atlanta, Mrs. Alvin Dyson of
Cameron, La., Mrs. John A. Watts of El Paso, Texas, and Mrs. C.M. Baker of
Minden.
She also leaves one sister, Mrs. Bernice Tarver of Winnfield; two brothers,
S.L. McManus of Atlanta and Vincent McManus of Port Arthur, Texas; 22
grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Bernice McManus Tarver, the sister of Minnie McManus Johnson, was the wife of George Russell Tarver, born 27 Feb 1898 in Rapides Parish, La. George Russell Tarver is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Pineville, La. He was the s/o Marion Crawford Tarver & Adeline Jolly, and grandson of Russell Marion Tarver and Aletha Ann Minerva Wilson. Russell Marion Tarver was s/o Samuel Wilson Tarver and Mary Ann Lilly.
Minnie McManus Johnson and Bernice McManus Tarver were daughters of Rev. P. McManus, pioneer Baptist preacher of Winn Parish. Rev. McManus died on 11 August 1937 and is buried at Mars Hill Cemetery.
