Obituary: Baton Rouge Advocate, 06 March 2001.

An environmental manager for Waste Management Inc. and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died Saturday, March 3, 2001, in Harrisonburg. He was 30, born April 28, 1970, in Bossier City, and was a former resident of Harrisonburg.

Visiting at Rosin Creek Pentecostal Church, Harrisonburg, from 6:30 p.m. Monday until religious services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. Norris Poole, the Rev. Bill Cotton and the Rev. Shorty Mayo. Interment in Heard Cemetery, Manifest.

Survived by his wife, Tamara Boothe Mayo, Baton Rouge; a son, Joshua Craig Mayo, Baton Rouge; parents, Johnny and Annette Mayo, Harrisonburg; a sister, Cami Sykes, Wake Village, Texas; and maternal grandparents, Charles and Martha Tarver, Aimwell.

Preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Dr. John T. Mayo and Hazel Mayo.

Pallbearers will be Randy Parker, Kevin Miller, Robbie Mayo, Jarrod Tollar, Rodney Ewing, Clay Knox, Brian Tripode and Mickie Schwaller. Honorary pallbearers are Ron Dupuis, John Wesley Smith and Scott Passman. He attended Parkview Baptist Church. Young's Funeral Home, Ferriday, in charge of arrangements.

NOTES

Reverand Everette D "Shorty" Mayo, who assisted with the service, is a brother to Jonathan's paternal grandfather, Dr. John Thomas "J.T." Mayo.

Shorty and J.T.'s parents were Reverand John Thomas "Tom" Mayo and Tommie Bell McVay.

Rev. Tom Mayo's parents were James Madison Mayo and Mary Josephine Carter.

John Thomas Mayo and Tommie Bell McVay were married Nov 09, 1921 in Franklin Parish, Louisiana. They are buried at Jena Memorial Cem., Jena, LaSalle Par., Louisiana. Their children were: John Thomas Mayo Jr., David Carlie Mayo, Ruby Mae Mayo, Everette D. Mayo, Charles Homer Mayo, Adren Ray Mayo, Billy Glenn Mayo, Katherine Josephine Mayo, and James Preston Mayo.

Tommie Bell McVey was the only child of Ephraim Thomas McVey and Mary Catherine Welch, who were married Sep 16, 1903 in Franklin Par., Louisiana. Ephraim Thomas McVey was the son of Hettie Jones and Thomas McVey. Mary Catherine Welch was the daughter of Mary Etta Matthews and Timothy Lawrence Welch. This was the second marriage for Mary Catherine Welch, who had nine children by her first husband, Jephtha Daniel Reeves.

Jephtha Daniel Reeves is buried in Lincium Cemetery, Grant Par., Louisiana. Ephraim Thomas McVey is buried in Central Bapt. Cem., Franklin Par., Louisiana. Mary Catherine Welch is buried in Harris Cem., Franklin Par., Louisiana.

Jonathan's grandmother, Hazel Mayo (wife of Dr. John T. Mayo) was Hazel Wilma Booth, the daughter of Jincy Eveline Hart and Joseph Ellis Boothe, who were married Dec 22, 1897 in LaSalle Par., Louisiana. Jincy was the daughter of Angeline F. Dempsey and Jesse Jones Hart, who were married Oct 11, 1893 in Catahoula Par., Louisiana.

I do not know the lineage of Charles and Martha Tarver, the maternal grandparents of Jonathan. If you can assist, please email me!
