Claude C. Melton Succumbs; Final Rites Here June 6
Funeral services for Claude C. Melton, 70, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 1965 in the Chapel of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield with Dr. W.L. Holcomb officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.
Acting as pallbearers were Drew Volentine of Athens, Cecil Volentine of Lisbon, Wilburn Garrett of Pineville, Tootsie Tarver of Bastrop, Floyd Volentine of Shreveport, and James Tarver of Winnfield.
Mr. Melton, a retired City of Winnfield electrical employee, died Saturday in a local hospital after a brief illness. He was a native of Winn Parish.
Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Zelda Melton of Winnfield; a son, David Melton of Winnfield; three daughters, Mrs. Owen Taylor and Mrs. Bill Slaton, both of Odessa, Texas, and Mrs. Joe Gorham of Winnfield; two brothers, Clifford Melton and Fletcher Melton, both of Winnfield; three sisters, Mrs. R.K. Garrett of Pineville, Mrs. Wiley Page of Baton Rouge, and Mrs. J.M. Tarver of Winnfield, and seven grandchildren.
NOTES
Pallbearer, R.E. "Tootsie" Tarver of Bastrop, was the son of Julius Carroll Tarver, of Winn Parish, La., who died 30 October 1994. Tootsie had a brother, James, who is probably the other pallbearer mentioned.
