My dad may not have had the highest formal education, but I still think he was the smartest man I ever knew. Like his daddy before him, he was the kind of man that made the best of what he had. He and Grandpa could fix just about anything with just a little tie wire and some duct tape. I think Macguyver could have learned a lot from my dad and grandpa.
My dad knew a lot of things, things learned through wisdom and experience, important things. He knew how to care. He knew how to love, and he knew how to sacrifice unselfishly. Everyone who ever knew Adrian has to agree with one thing ... that he never refused to help. He would help anyone with anything whether it was a place to stay, a part for their car, or a bite to eat. He always knew what we needed, and more importantly, he was always there to help fill those needs.
He could make friends with anybody. I never knew of anyone who didn't like my dad. I think that says a lot about the man that he was. Whenever I picture him in my mind, he is smiling. Adrian was a happy man, always quick with a joke or to pull a prank on you. He loved to do things to get a rise out of people. He just wanted us to see that we don't have to be so serious all the time. Laughter is so powerful. Often we don't take the time to see the humor in all the things we do or in the things that don't go quite the way we hoped they would. Things happen, good and bad, and we have to realize that God makes those things happen for a reason. It sounds trivial, but those words are probably more powerful than you or I may ever know.
My father was not in attendance at every church service, he may not have been one who came to mind when you thought of good Godfearing Christians, but through his actions, I think he showed God's love just as much or more than anyone. I know now that my dad has found peace, and his mind is no longer confused. I truly believe that he is up there waiting and watching, and he is happy. He is there for us, and he wants us to be happy.
My dad gave so much of himself to us all. Whether you knew him as Brother, Son, Uncle, or Friend, you knew him as Love. He is not gone. He will always be with us, in our thoughts and in our hearts.
