The following comments from David Tarver <Datok@aol.com>, May 1998
I have recently dedicated much time and effort to the tie in to John Tarver, Sr. and his wife Sarah Rogers Tarver. Although, information is real scarce, the is information which I have studied and evaluated many times which tends to reveal that the John of Barnwell is connected to John Sr. of Johnston Co. N.C.
John of Barnwell appears to also have been in the Charleston district and this may have been the early ties to the Cockerham families as there were several Cockerhams in the Charleston district in the late 1780's. John was also tied into the Rogers family thru his mother and Reuben Rogers who was granted land in Wilkes Co., Ga. in abt. 1780-1790 has been found by Carroll to have witnessed land transactions in Barnwell in 1790, the same year that John and Elizabeth of Barnwell appear in land transactions.
For these and other reasons which I have recently outlined in a letter to Mrs. Jean Barger of New Orleans I, too feel that this is a strong possibility that John coming into so. Ms. was the son of John Sr. and Sarah Rogers. However, the SC. connection to Andrew is a close second.
There was also I believe mention of the Gibson family in some records in so. Ms. at least an Elizabeth Gibson, which I wondered if she was one of the Gibsons mentioned in court records involved when John, son of Andrew died and his wife filed for court action against some of his children. However, I could never make that connection.
I don't know if Benjamin, son of John actually came into SC any farther than the Edgefield district.

Notes for FREDERICK TARVER:
Frederick TARVER was named guardian of his brother John. We have found no records that indicate Frederick ever married. He operated his father's ferry on the Neuse River after John Tarver's death. When Frederick died he left all of his land and plantation on the north north side of Neuse River to his brother John. His brother William received all the land and plantation on the south side of Neuse River where Frederick lived. The remainder of Frederick's estate was to be sold and divided between his other brothers and sisters.
Michael Rogers, brother of Sarah, was granted guardianship of William after Frederick died.
