1. Billison1 Tarver (James,A Samuel,B Thomas,C William,D)1,2,3 was born ca 1744, probably in Northampton Co., North Carolina. He died Oct 23, 1817 in Clinton, Jones Co., Georgia. He married Selah (aka Sarah) Vassar,4,5 daughter of Joseph Vassar and Tabitha Vick. She died May 1808.6

Billison Tarver household, 1790, (Northampton Co., NC, twp unknown, roll no. M637_7, p. 75), 1 free white male over 16, 3 free wht male under 16, 7 females, no slaves. Andrew and James on same page.

He was named in his father's will (transcribed, online), Northampton Co., North Carolina WB 1 1759-1792, Will 5, pp. 7-9.

Notes for Elizabeth "Lizzie" Tarver
According to The Patron and Gleaner, a weekly newspaper published in Lasker, North Carolina from July 21, 1892 - Sept. 28, 1899, which printed three Installments of "The Gumberry Legends" in its 31 Oct 1895-7 Nov 1895-15 Nov 1895 issues, Elizabeth Tarver was 19 years old and engaged to Felix Gay, "a Pvt soldier in Washington's army," when "Within a few weeks after Felix Gay pressed the lips of Lizzie Tarver with a fervent kiss and left for his command he fell in a battle fighting for the liberties of his country." The paper goes on to say that Lizzie Tarver, dressed in "bridal robes and a white handkerchief  . . .  tied over her face" killed herself by hanging from a pear tree in her father's back yard. Lizzie is said to haunt the area still. The same series of articles states: "Ephraim Vassar, a boy of 14 years old, lived near the Tarver place ..."

Notes for James Tarver
Billison, Micager and Thomas Tarver all transferred land to James Tarver In Northampton Co., NC. These three transactions occurred 1792, 1798, and 1799, respectively.

Billison, married to Lucy Seat, was on the 1790 Northampton Co., NC census. Andrew and James Tarver appear also on the 1790 Northampton census.

Billison and Lucy had sons named Micajah, Thomas and James, suggesting these transactions were probably among these close family members.

Clinton Methodist Church

At the July 1810 Term of the Inferior Court of Jones Co., Georgia, the presiding Justices appropriated to the use of the "Methodist connection" in the town of Clinton, one acre of land adjoining the one already laid out.

On July 14, 1821, a deed to the Clinton Methodist Church was made by the Justices of the Inferior Court to William Flewellen, ELISHA TARVER, Peter Clower, James Jones and Pierce A. Lewis as Trustees of the church. One hundred dollars was the consideration for the four acres of land. (Deed Book "M", p. 106.)
