John Jenkins Tarver & Agnes Jane Gunn
John Jenkins Tarver married Agnes Jane Gunn in Meadville, Franklin County, Mississippi on Jan 11, 1848. According to his service papers, he and Agnes had seven children before he enlisted in the Civil War.
He enlisted with the 1st Indiana Battery Heavy Artillery, New Orleans, Louisiana - the same unit with which my great-great grandfather, Samuel Wilson Tarver, served. A third Tarver to enlist with the 1st Indiana was Lunsford G Tarver, brother to Samuel Wilson Tarver. Only Samuel Wilson came back from the war. John Jenkins and Lunsford both left widows with children.
Agnes raised their children in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana, where she and John Jenkins had patented land before he enlisted. She never remarried and is buried at Taylor Chapel Cemetery in Summerville, LaSalleParish.
I do not know who John Jenkins parents were. If you can assist with identifying his lineage, or can add to his descendants, please email me.
