Died: In this county, on the 22d instant, near Busbee's Store, Green Rogers, aged 84 years, a soldier in the Revolutionary War. He was a good neighbor and as honest a man, all is now alive. Well might Pope say : A wit's a feather, a chief's a rod, an honest man is the noblest work of God. Little is known about Green Rogers until his death. His grandfather was Joseph Rogers whose will was written in Northampton County NC, 18 Feb 1752 and probated in February Court 1752. Joseph's children were: John, Joseph, Jr., Aaron, Isham, Reuben, Drurey, Michael, Sarah who married John Tarver, Mary who married Matthew Lowery, and Faith who married James Wooten. Green's parents were Isham and Prudence Rogers. He married first in Johnston County to Tabitha Upchurch, 16 Jan 1786. Their children were: Cynthia wife of Henry Crawford, Gilley wife of John Poole, Theny widow of Davis Smith, Winefred wife of Burwell Poole, Sythia dec'd wife of Bryan Ferrell, Letha present wife of Bryan Ferrell, and Edwin. In The Raleigh Register and North Carolina Gazette, 7 Feb 1837, appeared the following information. Married: In this county, by the Rev. Littlejohn Utley, on the 10th. Mr. Green Rogers, aged 76, to Miss Penina Clifton, aged 49. (Wake Co. Marriage Bonds -- Vol 1, I-R, page 448). The said Green Rogers died without making a will. Wake County Record Book #25 (WCRB #25) pages 150-1, November term 1842, one years support was allotted to Penina. Wake County Court of Pleas and Quarters sessions May term 1843, the children of Green petitioned for their share of their father's estate. WCRB #25, pages 267-8, the jurors of the court and sheriff of the county reported they had met on the land owned by Green Rogers, dec'd and had approved of the division of land don by Sion Rogers, County Surveyor. This gave Penina her widow's dower of 177 acres, 24 poles plus the home. WCRB #25, pages 348-9 details the land that was divided among the children or heirs of children. The remaining 235 acres, 20 poles were divided into 7 parcels. WCRB #25, pages 129-134 is a list of the property and to whom it was sold. Sarah Susannah Crawford, b. Dec 28, 1808 in North Carolina, d. May 1890, in Corryton, Knox Co., Tennessee. She was the dau of Henry Crawford and Cynthia Rogers, who is named above as a daughter Green Rogers. Sarah S Crawford and her husband, Ransom R Tarver, are buried at Corryton, Knox Co., Tennessee Arthur Crawford, son of Henry Crawford and Cynthia Rogers, married Nancy Tarver, Nov 26, 1829 in Knox County, Tennessee. Ransom Ruffin Tarver, Sr. and Nancy Tarver also were siblings. They were the children of Samuel Tarver (Revolutionary Soldier) and Charlotte Goff, who were married Dec 27, 1787 in Wake County, North Carolina. Samuel was the son of John Tarver and Sarah Rogers, grandson of Samuel Tarver and Mary Boyce.
