1. JOHN2 COCKERHAM (WILLIAM1) was born 1735, possibly in NC. He died 1843 in Amite Co., MS. He married ELIZABETH, surname unknown.

Notes for JOHN COCKERHAM:
John Cockerham died intestate. The administration of his estate are in the probate records of Amite Co., MS, file 34 [1844-1847]. His children and grandchildren are named as heirs.

All that we know of John Cockerham's parentage is that his father's name was William and that William COCKERHAM died in Barnwell Co., SC. Each of John COCKERHAM's older children, Henry, John Jr., and Nancy named a daughter Brambley, which suggests that John Sr. may have had two marriages, his first wife named Brambley and his second wife named Elizabeth. The name Brambley was carried on down in later generations of the three oldest children but not in the line of the younger children.

Very little is known about Thomas. The 1800 census of Barnwell District, SC lists
1 F +45 [wife?] 1 M 16-26, 1 M under 10, and 1 F 16-26. Nothing is known of his
wife and children. He was one of the surviving heirs of his father, John Sr. who
died in 1843-44 in Amite Co. MS.

Three, possibly four, Tarver men married Cockerham women, probably sisters. They moved from the Barnwell District area in SC to Amite County area (also Franklin and Pike), around 1890-1900. We have not yet determined which Tarver was Judy Cockerham's husband.

Wilson Tarver came to Mississippi from Barnwell Co. SC with the Tarvers and Cockerhams abt 1809. He was a blacksmith. His wife, Malinda, may have been a Cockerham.
