ALFRIDO RECORDS - Laredo, Webb County, Texas
Text version of this page: Alfrido Records
ST. AUGUSTINE CHURCH GENEALOGICAL RECORDS, Laredo, Webb Co., Texas
The following records were extracted from the new CD of San Agustin Parish
Genealogical Records by the Laredo Genealogical Society. The CD contains the card files accumulated over 14 years by the priest of San Augustin parish, Father Andrés. More info below.
Below is a transcription of the extracted ALFRIDO records, each linked to a pdf file. The pdf files are actual scans of the typed/handwritten 3X5 card by Father Andres. (pdf format requires Adobe Acrobat reader)
The information on these cards is pretty cryptic. The cards refer to birth,
confirmation, marriage, and death records. Each card file includes book,
page and act number of the original record. This information should help
you locate the records in Laredo. Some of these records I've already placed online.
The record for Clara Charo is for a woman whom Rafael Alfrido took to
Guerrero to heal, but she supposedly didn't heed his advice and behaved
badly while in Guerrero. He was her "curandero" or "faith healer." Of
note: Rafael Alfrido's occupation is recorded as DOCTOR on the 1860
census:
Federal Population Schedule TX, Alpheus Racliffe household, 1850 (Bowieville, Cameron Co., TX, Rio Grande Valley, p. 707, hh 1544-1714, lns 24-33), Head of household is Alpheus Racliffe aka Rafael Alfrido, wife: Tinidad, five children: Sarah, Nadia, Emily, Benj, and Daniel; and, three men, relationship unknown.
* The notation "aciv." indicates the event is registered in civil not church
records.

ST. AUGUSTINE CHURCH GENEALOGICAL RECORDS
St. Augustine Catholic Church, Laredo, Texas. COMPACT DISC. Dedication by Monsignor James E. Harris, biography of Reverend Florencio Andrés, O.M.I. by Rojelia García, and short history of Laredo by Gertrude Ann Ramos, Archivist. This is the first compac disc offered by Borderlands Book Store but hopefully a precursor of more to be available in the future pertaining to Hispanic genealogy. This disc contains the card files accumulated over 14 years by Father Andrés, who did similar work in other parishes where he was assigned. Father Andrés was also instrumental in supervising transcriptions of the Laredo Archives. He went as far as to visit towns and families in the area to record their genealogical information. Due to illness he was exempted from normal priestly duties and he was able to devote almost full time to this effort. Some initial work is required to get the “feel” for Father Andrés’ writing style/abbreviations since the CD consists of a scan of his typed/handwritten 3X5 cards. The card are organized in alphabetical order and images are arranged in sections A-D, E-H, I-L, M-P, Q-T, & U-Z. St. Augustine Church staff has provided a one-page key to some major abbreviations used by Father Andrés. Contains approximately 100,000 Cards, listing about 250,000 individuals. Covers part of 18th century, most of 19th century and some 20th century to 1935. This CD was produced to raise funds for church restoration. Available from Borderlands Bookstore.
