Acadia is 'permanently' given to the British after the Treaty of Utrecht.

2,576 settlers are brought to Acadia by the British.

The deportation (exile) of Acadians begins. Over 6,000 deported in first year.

The Acadians who fled to Ile St. Jean & Ile Royale are rounded up & sent to France. Two ships sink ... hundreds perish. Those who arrive safely in France initially settle around St. Malo and Morlaix in northwestern France.

The war between the French and the British is over. England sends Acadians surviving interment in England to France. Acadians who return to Acadia (now Nova Scotia) find their land settled by others.

The first Acadians begin to settle in Louisiana.

A census taken in France finds 2370 Acadians living there.

| 1785 |
Spain provides 7 ships to carry 1600 Acadians from France to Louisiana.
